Will NATO survive without Ukraine and Georgia?

MOSCOW. (RIA Novosti political commentator Dmitry Kosyrev) - Neither Ukraine nor Georgia received the Membership Action Plan (MAP) status at the meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels. This was so clear that the issue was not even discussed. In NATO, one vote is enough to reject a...... [view]

  Cannon fodder for the market

Reflections of Fidel: PERHAPS some governments are unaware of the concrete facts, and so for that reason Raúl’s message setting Cuba’s position seemed to us to be very timely. I shall be generous in the aspects that cannot be dealt with in a brief and precise official statement. ...... [view]

  Over the clouds

This time I flew with GermanWings: nice colorful plane! leather chair, smiley attendants. I flew from Bucharest to Berlin, a 2-hour trip, with some turbulence over Romanian rain clouds. Have you ever wished to see paradise over the clouds? I saw it!!! Clouds in all shapes and forms, white and...... [view]

  Buses of Bucharest

I only took the 133 from the train station to Piata Romana. Because of the holidays and people crowding the sea shore, thus away from the capital, the bus was pretty empty. Mostly old people, coming from the market, going places. It felt familiar, riding the bus. I missed Bucharest a lot. It's a...... [view]

  Statues in tune with events

I was told that statues are being built and money invested in marking historic personalities of Bucharest, of Romania. Sounds like a good thing, though most of them are heavily disputed, criticized. Take for example the statue of Carol I.. :) This is not the real statue, but it's been criticized...... [view]

  nostalgic architecture

I wanted to visit Brancusi's exibition at the National Art Museum of Romania in Bucharest (MNAR), but the day was too short.. I've always loved the architecture of the museum building!! Each time I pass by the building, I remember my student years in Bucharest when I used to suddenly decide...... [view]

  Streets of the city

Calea Victoriei is one of the most crowdy one-way streets in Bucharest, with cars and motorcycles speeding frenzied, towards Piata Unirii. On Friday I decided to walk on this street, to find changes and new shops. I like the photos a lot, so I'll post them in large size ^_^ Check them out!!!... [view]

  July 26

Walls are never empty. They are always covered with adds and posters of energetic events. Facing the plethora of happenings in the city you have to choose something. You have to attend at least a concert a month! :) Lenny Kravitz is performing on the 26th in Bucharest. Sadly I won't be able to...... [view]

  Novotel Bucharest

Image of soothing welcome to the glassy stylish building on Calea Victoriei. It looked nice. It's actually nicer than Novotel Malpensa. I've seen many nice changes among the old relics of the past.. the street was huming with aprehension. I have to say it again: Bucharest is under a thorough...... [view]

National Day of Romanian Air Force

On Friday I visited an exhibition, for the anniversary of the National Day of Romanian Air Force. I saw pictures of old airplanes built by Henri Coanda, Aurel Vlaicu, Traian Vuia. There were group photos of pilots with their fighting planes, dressed up in green uniforms with shoulder boards. I...... [view]
