Make A Submission to the UNDP Youth Climate Change Project

Submitted By:   Amac
Committers:  49
Date Created:  2008-05-06
Description:   The United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) Human Development Report (HDR) is probably the most widely read document published by the UN every year. But the reports are not widely read by young people, which is why the UN is inviting young people to make a short, colourful summary of it. The process is the same as previous years. If you did not take part last year, what we do is to create a task force of individual young people, school groups, etc. and get them to bring to life the key messages of the HDR with opinion pieces, reports, poems and stories, paintings, cartoons and photographs - so that everyone can understand these messages. The result is a beautiful, fascinating booklet entirely written and illustrated, designed and edited by young people. You can view the one we did last year at: http://hdr.undp.org/external/hdr2006/water The design and editing is done by the young international interns here at the world-famous Peace Child International centre, near Cambridge, UK. Contributors can watch the book come together, page by page, on the website. Also via the website, you can suggest a different story, another photograph, painting or design element, just as if you were sitting at the Editorial Meeting table. VIDEOS This year, the UNDP has asked us to go further and invite young people to create 30 to 90 second videos on how climate change affects you and what you feel should be done about it. For additional information on the video component please visit http://www.quantumshift.tv/contests/11 For additional information on the UNDP Youth Climate Change Project please visit and download the call out letter in English, French and Spanish at http://www.peacechild.org/climate

  Future of Africa

Submitted By:   sirtkay

Date Created:  2008-04-22
Description:   It is very obvious Africa as a continent faces all the odds we can think about in our contemporary world. Despite Africa being the backbone of success everywhere in the world, the state of affairs in Africa does not depict its contribution to the success off shores. I believe Africa can cause a revolution in all the negative aspects of the world and the continent can change and be a living testimony to the assertion "from grass to grace". I have decided to dedicate my life in which ever way i can effect change and i know there are people out there who are willing to do same to enable us achieve change in Africa. The future of Africa lies in the hands of Africans and its about time to stand up and realize your potential of making this change a reality. No matter how difficult it might be it is worthy of trying. Mother Africa is calling please pick up the phone... http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=25392232624&ref=share

working to promote the Empowernment of women in Nigeria and promoting Healthy sexuality among Nigerian Women

Submitted By:   estyc
Committers:  16
Date Created:  2008-02-29
Description:   . To achieve our global goals, we must agree that: • We will not stand for playing politics with women’s lives. • We will not stop until the basic technologies for safe abortion care and contraception, that have been available in rich countries for decades, reach every village in low-income countries around the world. • We will not be satisfied until all women know their legal rights and reproductive options. • We will not be silent until criminal penalties are removed for women who seek and health professionals who provide abortion. • We will not rest until governments and donor’s put women’s lives first in their priorities for money and attention. Most important, we will engage women everywhere to demand the sexual and reproductive health care they need and the compassionate treatment and respect they deserve. With leaders from Africa and every region, now is the time to begin a new era in advancing the human dignity and rights of women around the world”.
