Description: In the 21st century, the illiterate person is said to be the one who does not know how use a computer.
Africa and many remote and/or rural areas in developed countries, having access to a computer for the purposes information, communication or facilitation of processes is still a challenge.
As such, I commit to promote modern ICTs in rural/remote areas, where their people are convinced of the necessity of these technologies to improve on their health, education, environment and economic development. [view]

Description: With the phenomenal expansion in use of ICT tools, as embodied in the steady growth rates of computer penetration and internet access, and the take-up of mobile phones especially among the young, ICTs are effectively changing society and empowering children and youth with new means for self assertion and achievement. It is, therefore, imperative that online safety issues are reviewed carefully to secure the well being of young users. Incidents of overuse and misuse have started to show up in a number of societies. In recognition of such risks, we should all work to stop internet safety breaches. It is a fact of today’s online environment that young people may be involuntarily exposed to various online dangers. Such materials are either repulsive or damaging. The proliferation of Internet sites depicting violence, brutality and crime desensitizes youth to their horrors. This necessitates immediate action to raise awareness among youth about the potential dangers associated with the use of the Internet. [view]

Description: Science and technology have a significant impact on society and policy. In 1955 Albert Einstein, Bertrand Russell, and other eminent scientists issued a manifesto urging scientists to "think in a new way" about their moral responsibilities in the nuclear age. Today, the need for social responsibility in science and technology extends beyond nuclear nonproliferation concerns to health issues, such neglected tropical diseases; the impact of emerging technologies, such as nanotechnology; and energy and environment issues, such as climate change. Join me in pledging to learn more about the role of science and technology in society and starting a conversation with your friends about what you learn.
The next U.S. president and Congress will have will face a number of policy challenges relating to science, technology, and medicine. Learn more at http://www.spusa.org/2008vote. [view]

Description: The Free Digital Universe (FDU) is a non-violent Virtual World that serves as a Charitable Fundraiser, social forum, and personal wealth empowerment tool for thriving in the Information Age.
... Goals: Our objestives include:
1) Providing a way out poverty for Emerging Markets which does not take from the natural resources of the local environment.
2) Offering a secure common, global, unencumbered medium of echange which treats & compensates everyone equally.
3) Provide a global law forum where living people may interact more like Souls (equal under Nature) than Citizens of competing countries.
4) Create a monetary system free of debt, backed not so much by physical assets (Earths Resources) but mainly on elements of human creativity such as educating, music, art, literature, and service; where "value" is created from human elements of creativity (music, words, art) rather than natural resources. A equal system where one can shoot an animal video instead of an animal, and provide wealth for their family earned by digital sales to a global audience.
5) Support Charities which can implement solutions - see www.peaceportal.mobi |
